Day 10 – Relaxing in Rotorua

October 25, 2012

Today was a day of relaxation after yesterday’s adventures. We stayed on site until late morning taking life very much in the slow lane. We ventured out to do some grocery shopping enjoying a nice coffee break before returning back to the camper-van for a late lunch. Before lunch we went into the geothermal mineral springs which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Rotorua has an evening market so we decided to take ourselves off to see what it had to offer. It is an eclectic mix of crafts, food and cultural stalls. It was interesting but not captivating. We moved on to try a beer or two at the Irish pub before taking a meal at one of the many restaurants. The food and presentation was excellent but the service was down right poor. After waiting 30 mins for the arrival of our starter course I complained to be told there had been a ‘communication problem’ with the kitchen. Well those of you who know me well will know that I was not at all impressed and I made that clearly known to the staff. Our meal arrived, minus the starter course though we would agree it was it was enjoyable!!! We ate it then quickly asked for the bill, whilst the dessert menu looked good we were not prepared to take the risk of waiting another 30 mins for it to arrive!!! Scores for the quality of food was probably 9/10 but for service and customer satisfaction 2/10!!!!!

We returned to the Belgian Bar which we had previously visited and enjoyed a few beers/wine and enjoyed the camaraderie with the host and some locals. What a superb pub this is, great beers and excellent environment. The host is very knowledgable of beers and he even persuaded me to have a London Pride which is beer I would normally steer away from. What a lovely taste!! Our pubs back home have so much to learn about presentation and customer satisfaction! So that was our day. Not much really but we feel so relaxed and looking forward to the next part of our adventure.
