Day 3 – Northlands

October 18, 2012

Well not much to say about today as it was ‘moving day’. We woke to rain, it made us feel very much at home. We picked up our camper-van today which is going to be our home for the next 28 days. It is great and really spacious and drives ever so easily – well with a little bit of human help!! We set off to the Northlands which is probably better known as the Bay of Islands. It was a lovely 240 kilometre drive through some great scenery – reminded us very much at times of Northumberland and the Lake District. The weather had improved and most of the time we drove in dry conditions with occasional outbreaks of clear blue skies and sun though it was rather windy, which was interesting when driving a high sided vehicle. We arrived at our first nights stopover just outside of Kaihu a lovely site nestled on the west coast in a valley surrounded by trees and quite high hills. Looking forward to our first night ever in a camper-van hope we get a good sleep as we have planned quite a busy day for tomorrow.
